Eternal question that renewal after so much praise. Ibrahim Maalouf stands out here again with his new project. A project born in 2011 when the Cinémathèque française offers to put a silent movie to music. Bingo! Ibrahim Maalouf has long dreamed of paying tribute to the sublime elevator for the scaffold of Louis Malle by Miles Davis. He chose Rene Clair's prey of the wind, which, for him, brings together all the atmospheres and emotions he wants to express. He composes, invites the pianist Frank Woeste (also with the arrangements) then leaves to record in New York with the finest of the current New-York scene: bassist Larry Grenadier, drummer Clarence Penn and saxophonist Mark Turner. Throughout these 12 scenes the quintet sublimates the melancholic, sensual and mysterious inspirations of this unique jazz with oriental sounds. More than a tribute to Miles, Wind is a real sound, musical and emotional slap. A jewel recorded in one take during a single half-day studio.
