The circle is complete: this edition completes the series of Urtext editions of all of Beethoven's string quartets. It was initially the "Great Fugue" which constituted the finale of this most expressive work, at the center of which is the famous "Cavatine". A contemporary critic, however, found the finale "incomprehensible, like Chinese". At the express request of the publishing house, Beethoven replaced it with another final and published the "Grande Fugue" under another opus number. Since then, it has been readily included in the concert program as a "full-fledged" work. To meet the wishes of many musical groups wishing to also be able to play the Quartet op. 130 by Beethoven in its original form, we are attaching the "Great Fugue" to this edition.
