The five cello and piano sonatas of Beethoven, together with Bach's cello suites, represent the pinnacle of cello literature. Published between 1797 and 1817, they cover a large part of the composer's creative period and reflect important stations of his musical evolution. This revised edition is based on the results of the "Kritischer Bericht" (autumn 2008 issue) of the "Beethoven-Gesamtausgabe", the complete edition of Beethoven's works. The Urtext edition boasts an entirely new typographic composition, the piano part featuring the proven layout of the previous edition. Renowned cellist David Geringas designed a completely reorganized cello part with optimized page changes. In addition, this edition has another Urtext part without fingering.
