Already enthusiastically received by contemporaries, Brahms' unique violin concerto remains today a piece of major repertoire. Evidence of the fruitful collaboration that had been established between the composer and Joseph Joachim, is the cadence written and added by the latter. Brahms' original piano reduction, which is particularly demanding from a piano point of view, has been carefully pruned for this edition by Johannes Umbreit. Based on the text of the “Neue Brahms-Gesamtausgabe” (new complete edition of the works of Brahms), this Urtext edition reproduces in appendix a variant, hitherto unpublished in editions for practice, of the cadence of Joachim. In addition to the original fingerings and annotations, it also presents the fingering proposals of Frank Peter Zimmermann._
