This critical edition of the Petite Suite for Piano 4 Hands is a reprint of the complete works of Claude DEBUSSY , Series I, Volume 9.
The titles of the Petite Suite's movements, notably "Cortège" and "Ballet", evoke both the first orchestral suite and the poetic world of Paul Verlaine's fetes galantes ("Procession", "By boat"), including Debussy had set several poems to music as early as 1882.
The work was sold to publisher Durand, Schoenewerk - Cie on December 8, 1888. It appeared at the beginning of the following year, the legal deposit having been made on the 12th of February, 1889. It is hard to imagine that the Petite Suite, which was one of Durand's best sellers during the composer's lifetime, was initially ignored by the listeners who discovered it later.
