Piano music takes only a limited but musically essential place in Janá_ek's work. This edition of "Im Nebel" by Ji_í Zahrádka, an informed editor of Janá_ek's works, demonstrates this in an impressive way. The little cycle was born in 1912 and was published for the first time the following year. But, as often, Janá_ek allowed himself to be inspired to revise the work: after the creation in Prague by the pianist _t_pán Václav in December 1922, composer and performer set out together in his revision, which appeared in 1924. Our Henle Urtext edition is based on this last-hand version and also offers convincing solutions to practical questions like the realization of the often contradictory pedal indications of Václav and Janá_ek.
