Gershwin's Concerto was premiered on December 3, 1925 at Carnegie Hall - the epicenter of the New York classical scene. It is part of a set of "experiments" that the composer imposed on himself in order to open a path to "serious" music: "I have written three opus so far '- the' Blue Monday Oper ', the' Rhapsody in Blue 'and the' Concerto '. I have invested a lot of time in these works, but they do not correspond to my personal approach. They represent experiences - laboratory work in American music. ” Norbert Gertsch, responsible for this edition, has consulted and compared many handwritten or printed sources in the United States here, and offers for the first time an Urtext edition of this very famous concerto for piano imbued with the idiom of jazz.
