Louis Durey was part of the Group of Six alongside Milhaud, Honegger, Poulenc, Taillefer and Auric. His compositional quality is most evident in his chamber music and vocal pieces. He was general secretary of the Popular Music Federation from 1937 to 1956 and of the French Association of Progressive Musicians. Children's Calendar is the title of a collection of poems by Yves Lacôte published in 1936 at The Workshop of Father Castor - Flammarion, 12 poems on the months of the year. Louis Durey put three of these poems into music (April - May - June), in a version for two equal voices and piano in 1937. Another version, handwritten, is intended for a string orchestra accompaniment.
