The tango was born in Buenos Aires in 1882. The first instruments to play it were the guitar and the flute. Subsequently, the piano and the bandoneon are added. It is a music full of grace and liveliness: it gives the image of the good humor, of the flow of the French, the Italian and the Spanish who live in these brothels, enticing policemen, thieves, sailors and bad boys who visit. Tango is gay. Café 1930: This is another time of tango. We stop dancing like in 1900 and we just listen to it - it becomes more musical, more romantic too. It is a radical transformation: slower movement, new harmonies, a lot of melancholy. The tango orchestras consist of two violins, two bandoneons, a piano and a bass. We sing sometimes. Night Club 1960: This period, during which international trade is considerably increasing, sees a new evolution: Brazil and Argentina meet in Buenos Aires. Bossa nova and new tango, same fight. The public comes to the night clubs to listen seriously to the new tango. Revolution, profound upheaval of some forms of old tango. Today's concert: The tango music joins, by some concepts, the new music. Reminiscences of Bartok, Stravinsky and others on a tango background. It's the tango of today, the tango of the future ...
