BRAHMS JOHANNES - Ballade (edward ballade) ré mineur op. 10-1 BRAHMS JOHANNES - Ballade (intermezzo) si mineur op. 10-3 BRAHMS JOHANNES - Ballade ré majeur op. 10-2 BRAHMS JOHANNES - Ballade si majeur op. 10-4
The Scottish Ballad "Edward", taken from the collection of popular songs "Stimmen der Völker in Liedern" by JG Herder (Voices of Peoples), impressed Brahms so much that, as he said to a friend, the melodies were arranged 'themselves in him. "Edward" provides the motif for the first of four ballads, musical tales of a romantic and dramatic nature, linked for Brahms to shared memories with Clara Schumann. For Julius Grimm, to whom the pieces are dedicated, "it is to her that the ballads actually belong". Robert Schumann meanwhile expressed himself enthusiastically about the work of his young colleague. It was the great pianist Lars Vogt who brought the fingerings to our Urtext edition of this easy-to-play work. This offers the text based on the musicological volume to be published soon from the Complete Edition of Brahms' works.
