Like many virtuoso pianists of his time, Schumann also dreamed of presenting himself to the public, as both a pianist and a composer, with his own piano concerto. He began his first attempts at a young age. But in the following years, he felt more and more attracted by the idea of a more formally free conception. Starting from the outline of a “Phantasy” in one movement, Schumann finally writes the first movement of this famous work, presented here for the first time in an Urtext edition for practice.
