The three famous Intermezzi op. 117 can be considered the embodiment of Brahms' late piano work. Clara Schumann confessed: "In these pieces, I finally hear again a musical life taking hold of my soul and I play them with ardor". As is often the case, Brahms expressed himself laconically. Although he considered the three Intermezzi as "lullabies", he officially refused the title: "it would then be necessary to put 'Lullaby of an unhappy mother' or of an inconsolable bachelor". The new edition of these medium difficulty pieces (grade 5/6) is now revised according to the text of the new complete edition of Brahms' works and fingered by Andreas Boyde.
