Bach gave two handwritten collections of scores to his wife Anna Madgdalena. By its binding covered with parchment and gilded on edge, the second is particularly precious. In this small collection (Büchlein) dated 1725, he noted a large number of pieces by his own pen, or that of other composers, intended for the keyboard and in all genres. Appearing each year in the list of best-selling titles in our catalog, the Urtext edition published by Henle renders, engraved remarkably by hand and in the most faithful manner, the entirety of this manuscript, with the exception of movements extracted from the "French Suites" (HN 593) and the "Partitas" (HN 28) also appearing in the Notenbüchlein, which, as everyone knows, can be found elsewhere in our catalog.
