The Appassionata is arguably one of Beethoven's most famous piano sonatas with the Moonlight Sonata and the Waldstein Sonata. After the latter, it represents a new highlight in Beethoven's piano work. There is basically nothing to add to the sentence attributed to Lenin concerning this sonata: "Men are capable of such marvels". Although curiously appeared for the first time only in 1838 in an adaptation of the work for piano with four hands published by Cranz editions in Hamburg and not by Beethoven, the nickname of Appassionata is inseparable from the work. It clearly illustrates to perfection the dramatic contrasts of the first movement, the solemn interiority of the second and the devastating passion of the third.
