BACH

The four Bach flute sonatas gathered in this volume offer a very varied panorama, both from a stylistic point of view and from that of their transmission. The first two are sonatas with basso continuo, that is to say for flute formation, a serious instrument from the string family and harpsichord. Their date of composition is not known with precision, but could be situated in the years spent by Bach in Köthen.
The preserved version of the sonatas in B minor and A major BWV 1030 and 1032 with obligatory harpsichord is the adaptation of earlier lost works. The overlapping writing of the flute and harpsichord parts is pushed to its maximum in the meditative sonata in B minor, which is undoubtedly a major work in the flute repertoire. On the contrary, the joyful sonata con-certante in A major, seduced by its brilliant play and its shimmering colors.
