Original title: La storia di Orfeo : MONTERDI, SARTOTIO, ROSSI
The birth of the opera - the birth of a myth - Philippe Jaroussky unheard of in the character of Orpheus through a kind of mini-opera made on the basis of 3 major operas evoking Orpheus - Eurydice. This album of infinite delicacy is to mark a milestone in the discography of Philippe Jaroussky.
You know my passion for 17th century Italian Baroque music ... I conceived this project around 3 major operas, reconstituting a kind of mini-opera, cantata with two voices and choir, around the characters of Orpheus and Eurydice. Each opera develops a part of the story: Sartorio and Rossi evoke the happiness of young lovers, as well as the snake bite scene - Monteverdi focuses on the quest for Eurydice in hell, culminating with an air unique in the history of opera, the magical "Possente Spirto", which I dare to sing here in counter-tenor, for the first time on record. I would like to thank Diego Fasolis and Emöke Baráth, who have agreed to participate in this project that I have been dreaming of for so many years.
