The melodies or lieder, grouped in this volume, were chosen for the end of the first cycle (this normally corresponds to the 3rd or 4th year of musical studies). The chronological order was preferred so that students learn, as the work progresses, to situate composers in the history of music. Teachers can choose according to their taste, the level and progress of their students, the melody or the most appropriate lied. The desire to present a fairly wide range of styles and eras was present throughout the development. The texts cover a period from the 17th century to the 20th century and are generally representative of the composer's style. A translation of meaning is proposed for each non-French text. In order to make students sensitive to the text-to-music ratio, it is best to blackmail these pieces with the lyrics, after a first study with the name of the notes. The piano accompaniment, whether or not a transcription, can be usefully read and worked by the student: it can be used to support the various exercises of the musical training course (dictation, interval recognition or chords, practical theory, fault detection, vertical and horizontal key reading, rhythmic reading ...).
