Florence Gétreau's scientific work has profoundly renewed the fields of musical iconography and organology, from Antiquity to contemporary times. The contributions gathered in this volume illustrate the extent of its international influence.
Florence Gétreau has deeply marked and renewed the fields to which she has devoted her scientific work: organology (evolution of musical instruments, instrumental craftsmanship, techniques and ethics of restoration), musical iconography, the history of collections instruments and the social history of music.
This volume of mixtures, bringing together more than forty contributions from colleagues and friends, illustrates the importance of his work, the diversity of his fields of research, as well as the extent of his influence and his international recognition.
Art historian and musicologist, qualified doctor, heritage curator and then director of research at the CNRS, Florence Gétreau was notably project manager of the Music museum (1987-1992), head of the Music and Speech department at the National Museum of Popular Arts and Traditions of Paris (1993-2003), director of the Research Institute for Musical Heritage in France (2004-2013) and president of the French Society of Musicology (2011-2015).
